Solid Steel - Nov 04.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (4th November).
With the British Isles celebrating Bonfire Night, (the occasion of a failed attempt to blow the timbers off the House of Lords, and explode King James I), our very own DJ Moneyshot observes this historic date with a themed mixtape fit to bursting with incendiary songs celebrating civil unrest. Before the Rozzers turn up we get an hour of punk, rock, beats, reggae, DnB, dubstep and hip-hop with tracks from Reso, The Ruts, Outkast, Foreigner, DJ Vadim and The Brookes Brothers and should be used as a soundtrack to a strong letter-writing campaign to you local MP. Pass the sparklers, and happy Bonfiring!
Solid Steel Radio Show 4/11/2011 Part 1 + 2 - DJ Moneyshot by Ninja Tune
In hour 2 it's a mix from Deco Child, who has an EP out on Ninja Tune next year and delivers a mix, kicking off with moombahton flavours from Dave Nada, Dillon Francis and Diplo, and moves onto music from Falty DL, Blawan and tracks from his upcoming EP.
Dam Mantle takes over the helm for the last half hour and it's straight in with a few of his own productions and into more deep lush sounds from Cosmin TRG on 50 Weapons, Pole, Lukid and LV alongside Joshua Idehen to close.

Solid Steel - Oct. 07

Solid Steel in association with Serato (7th October).
This week it's another treat for your eyes as well as your ears, as the 1st hour is available in 3 different formats. You can listen to the Audio mix through Soundcloud as normal or you can watch the AV mix on this page through Vimeo, plus you can also download the Video Podcast from the Solid Steel page in iTunes.
'This is a Journey into Beats 'n' Frames' famously riffs off of two classic Coldcut trademarks and checks the render setting to 'highest'. St. Petersburg's Mr Armtone becomes only the second person to have a guest AV mix on Solid Steel, supplying a packed hour with his trademark tight mixes and equally syncopated imagery . Each video has undergone his own edits, remixes and tweaks and the quality is top notch throughout. It features music and visuals from the Ninja Tune stable with Daedelus, Hexstatic, Diplo, DJ Kentaro and Coldcut all making an appearance, plus more from Tipper, Ian Brown and the Pixies remixed by Bassnectar.
Solid Steel Radio Show 07/10/2011 Part 1 + 2 - Mr Armtone by Ninja Tune
In hour 2 it's time to welcome back Solid Steel resident, DJ Moneyshot, who steps through this time with his 'Shiny Blend Mixtape'. Over one ear-boggling hour the wily selector takes you on a trip through classic hip-hop, rock, beats, funk and even thrash metal. An acapella from O.C. rides over a Mohawks instrumental, Krautrock outfit Can, provide backing for R'n'B workouts courtesy of Debelah Morgan and Slayer bring the ruckus. All that, and time left over for the Lords of the Underground to get Psycho, Faithless to Drift Away, and Mr Scruff to show you his Giant Pickle.
As you'd expect, classic material from yer man Roy 'Moneyshot' Spencer. Go find him on Facebook for gig dates and random acts of kindness.

Solid Steel - May 27.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (27th May).
This week we welcome Jackmaster with a mix promoting his Fabric mix CD out this week. After kicking off with Freeze and Janet Jackson we soon slip into some classic house from Adonis and Detroit techno from Underground Resistence, before moving through more recent cuts from Blawan, Pearson Sound, Boddika & Joy O. New music from Hudson Mohawke and a track off the excellent Africa Hitech album also feature and then it's a trip into rave territory with Awesome 3, before ending with Jay Z and the dubstep classic 'Midnight Request Line' from Skream
Solid Steel Radio Show 27/5/2011 Part 1 + 2 - Jackmaster by Ninja Tune
In hour two we welcome back official Solid Steel resident and undisputed mixtape champ, DJ Moneyshot. This week he hits us upside the dome piece with the Jogging Bottoms mix. In the blender this installment we have another deftly crafted play list of classic hip-hop, pedigree funk and wobbly breaks. New music from Parker and Boca45's Bee Keepers project and Moneyshot's Joe Driscoll remix nod to the hear and now, but vintage crate diggin' in the form of The Beginning Of The End, Run DMC, The Brady Bunch and Ezee Posse doff royally to the blessed old school. Hats off Moneyshot, sir. Another day out for the ears.

solid steel (24 Dec 2010) -- Best of 2010 part one!

Solid Steel in association with Serato (24th December).
We continue our review of 2010 looking back at the most popular mixes by the 'nu skool' Solid Steel resident DJ's, as voted by you the listeners. 'In no particular order', we kick off with Boom Monk Ben and a section from his mix back in September, hitting big dubstep tracks with Benga's remix of Toddla T, Chali 2Na & Rusko, plus ragga flavours from Tanya Stephens and the oh so soulful voice of Erykah Badu given a superb remix by Seiji.
Cheeba's mix from February got your votes, with music from Waxfactor, Memory9, and Santogold alongside music from the Ninja catalogue, where DJ Food and King Cannibal jostle for space with Roots Manuva and Hexstatic.
Solid Steel Radio Show 24/12/2010 Part 1 + 2 -Boom Monk Ben, DJ Cheeba by Ninja Tune & Big Dada
In Hour 2, Ruckus Roboticus gets the nod for his May mix of contemporary beats, hip-hop, and soul to while away your lazy afternoons. Of course J Dilla is in there, lounging alongside Mos Def, Flying lotus and Jay Electronica.
DJ Moneyshot's 'You Are The Infinity' mix from February hit the right button, with crisp drum kicks of vintage Jungle added to a hypnotic dose of self-help records, Rock breaks, classic Hip-Hop and downtempo beats. Ann Peacock, Photek, Organized Konfusion, Pixies and Daedelus all get some treatment.

solid steel (03 Dec 2010)

Solid Steel in association with Serato (3rd December).
This week Ghostbeard adds some heat to the winter chills with a mix leaning heavily on the Ninja Tune XX box-set and some other recent Ninja/Big Dada hotness. We hear music from Bang On, Toddla T and The Bug, all mixed up with some ragga business from Mr Lexx, Busy Signal and Lady Chann, plus Beenie Man’s awesome rip on Kenny Rogers “The Gambler”.
Solid Steel Radio Show 3/12/2010 Part 1 + 2 - Ghostbeard by Ninja Tune & Big Dada
DJ Moneyshot takes charge of hour 2. Using a lifetime of Hip-Hop knowledge, a year of digging, and a solid weekend of slicing and dicing, he's presents his Deep Covers mix. It's a jam-packed hour of bands, comedians, DJs and MCs performing tributes, bites, covers and remixes of their favourite Rap jams. So we get the UK's DUBbledge reworking the hallowed '93 Till Infinity by Souls of Mischief, Turntablists '89 Skratch Gangstaz re-cutting Double Dee & Steinski's Lesson 3, and Barenaked Ladies taking on P'E's incendiary Fight The Power. Thankfully Duran Duran's '95 cover of White Lines was left on the cutting room floor. Nice work, Moneyshot.

solid steel - April 30.2010

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th April).
Once again we hand over the reigns to the hardest working man in this mixtape game, DJ Moneyshot. This week it's all about the dancefloor, as our rum resident takes us through the bpms with his trademark style and pizazz. With Halcali's J-Pop, Funkdoobiest's throwback Electro, and cone-melting Dubstep courtesy of High Rankin, it's a party from the get go. And there aint no party like a Moneyshot party. Promoters take note: He's available for bookings now... (he told us to say that).
Hour 2 welcomes Bristol resident, Powercut with his "Cover your tracks" mix and you guessed it, you'll find a mighty fine selection of cover versions both old and new from the likes of Lettuce, Peggy Lee and The Jimi Entley Sound. It's heavy on the drums and the funk, and mixed just how we like it.

solid steel (30 oct 2009)

Solid Steel in association with Serato (30th October).
This week DK continues with more recent releases from Bassnectar, Captain Planet, last weeks guest Pablo and Robert Strauss featuring the legendary Leroy Burgess. It’s spiritual jazz from Doug Carn and his cover of Higher Ground, Polish breaks from Jerzy Milian and more from Kid Koala's project, The Slew.
DJ Moneyshot is piped on board with a suitably nautical theme as he joins DK, DJ Food, Hexstatic, King Cannibal and DJ Cheeba tonight at the Thekla in Bristol. It's a club in a boat and his mix hauls in every conceivable track to commemorate the event, including of course, Lonely Island's "I'm on a boat".
Sticking with themes, hour 2 is given over to Mischa Hully (also known as C0pyr1gh7) who gives us a spooky Halloween mix featuring Marilyn Manson, King Cannibal, Zombi and The Specials.

solid steel (04 sep 2009)

Solid Steel in association with Serato (4th September).
This week the mighty DJ Moneyshot comes correct with a contender for mix of the year. Taking all the original beats from the Beastie Boys' Check Your Head album he loops, re-edits and layers them into a mind-blowing odyssey, showcasing the Brooklyn threesome's dope taste in samples. In this packed hour Punk veterans Bad Brains ride shotgun with gun-toting Rock behemoth Ted Nugent. Jimi Hendrix adds his freaky Funk to the mumbling street smarts of EPMD. And the Ohio Players' Funky Worm gets dissected over Dr John's Gilded Splinters. A joy from start to finish.
Hour 2 and it's the man Radio Slave with a preview of his Fabric mix, with tracks from DJ Boola, Spencer Parker, plus his own productions, all given space to stretch out while adding more touches along the way.
DK steps in to close the show with the haunting sounds of Burial and dubstep from Crissy Criss & Youngman, Nicoluminous and Bassnectar adding their own take on the Albarosie classic. A trio of Brazilian tracks end the show with Jose Mauro, Cesar Salad and new material from Os Mutantes.
