Solid Steel - July 27
Solid Steel in association with Serato (27th July).
Inspired by the hot weather in London, Coldcut return with a suitable selection to start, with reggae from John Holt, Tony Dread and Bobby Ellis, before a seamless mix into Gary Numan and Tubeway Army. Sabres of Paradise get an orchestral treatment from In The Nursery and it's a trio of accoustic guitar tracks from John and Beverley Martin, Bert Jansch and Family. We take a more electronic route into the second half with Swindle, Dam Mantle and the Breakage remix for Roots Manuva.
Marc Mac from 4 Hero and Visioneers supplies the guest mix this week celebrating the release of his album Hipology and it's a dive into the crates for classic cuts from Larry Willis, Jack Wilkins and Prophets of Soul with their killer version of Ain't no Sunshine, plus tracks from the Visioneers album as well.
We finish on an interview with Grasscut who discuss their new album 'Unearth' out on Ninja Tune, which features ten songs shaped by landscape and memory and they tell us more about the alternative versions that are hidden across the UK. We also hear some of their music and inspirational tracks from Robert Wyatt and Joy Division.
