hey y'all -- this is just about as far back in the King Megatrip archives as I'm willing to share. The mixing is a bit wack, but the tunes still hold true -- (I'd put it together differently today for sure).   It was mixed back in early 2002... so far back in the Megatrip archives that I was using a different name at the time -- Agent MK.

the mix was made for The Vinylizer's "Back to the Basics" radio show that airs in Germany -- hit up his website for tons of info and some great mix shows that he still puts together without fail, week in and week out.  [haven't spoken to Marcus in many years - hope all is well!]

NOTES: This mix was made using my first DJ secret identity, "Flexx Mentallo, Hero of the Beach". I stole the name from a Doom Patrol comic book character, Flex Mentallo.
The first half of this mix aired on Solid Steel January 01, 2001.
Coldcut & crew must have thought my DJ name was too long, because they credited the mix to just "Flexx" ... I changed the dj moniker shortly there after to Agent MK.

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK

so, I'm going to upload the entire KING MEGATRIP mixtape catalog over at Mixcloud -- attempting to post one a week and hopefully time it, so that there will be new material following that!

hit me up here or at the King Megatrip facebook page.

Solid Steel (29th March).

Solid Steel (29th March).

We open with Ninja Tune artist Falty DL and a mix of fine tracks starting with the wonderful 'Love me like this' by Floating Points and into an unreleased cut from the man himself. Then it's the first of two tracks from Mr Richard D James, as AFX on Rephlex to start and Pulsewidth as Aphex Twin later. In between there's music from Theo Parrish, Luke Vibert, MFSB and Moodymann, plus some afrobeat magic from Tony Allen.
Robin from Hexstatic is up next with the new track 'Cirrus' from Bonobo (check the amazing video) and into a new release from the ever lush Lusine on Ghostly International. Some nice house action from Huxley and Soul Reazon and then new fav Dusky with 'What I Need'. Waze and Odyssey pump it up party style and then into the classic voice of Robert Owens brought up to date by Mosca, before closing with a great booty of Lauryn Hill switching the lyrics up from Golden Boy.

Our 25th Anniversary slot this week features Richard Dorfmeister who appeared on the show in 2003 and featured many times as one half of Kruder and Dorfmeister, as well as his project Tosca with Rupert Huber, amongst others. Opening with ECM artist Steve Tibbetts, his mix floats between Gui Boratto, his own lush edit for Selah Sue, acoustic guitar of Jeb Loy Nichols and the dubbed out Rhythm & Sound featuring Cornell Campbell on vocals. He then weaves through Pat Metheney, the dub version of Sunset from Grace Jones' last album, blues from Ry Cooder and ending with a couple of tracks from his recent Tosca album 'Odeon'.

Menagerie -The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix

Menagerie -The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix

'The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix' is a collection of tracks assembled by Menagerie - the new spiritual Jazz project from prolific producer Lance Ferguson. 'They Shall Inherit' was shaped by Lance's reflections on fatherhood and the inherited sounds of past spiritual Jazz legends. This mix showcases an interpretation of just that, and includes a variety of influences from The Last Poets, Phil Ranelin, Richie Havens, and vibraphonist Roy Ayers (who is featured on the record)!

1. Menagerie – They Shall Inherit (Tru Thoughts)
2. The Last Poets - Blessed Are Those Who Struggle (Douglas/Casablanca)
3. Phil Ranelin – For The Children (Hefty)
4. Frank Foster – The Loud Minority (Mainstream)
5. Richie Havens – Sugarplums (Verve)
6. Roy Ayers – Lil's Paradise (Atlantic)
7. Haki R. Madhubuti & Nation: Afrikan Liberation Arts Ensemble – Medasi – Children (Rise Records)
8. Roland Prince – Peoples Song (Vanguard)
9. Carlos Garnett – Mother Of The Future (Muse)
