Warren Ellis' T-shirt of the Week 001

Warren Ellis has started a "t-shirt of the week" concept... quoting the man:

"I has a scheme. Or, more properly, Ariana and I has a scheme. On Twitter, I’ve been joking about turning some of my stupider comments into t-shirts. And then I thought, hold on, there’s only one way to make this joke funnier. And that’s to actually do it. So Ariana set up a Cafe Press store (because this is a joke and engaging with a serious maker of t-shirts would be less funny to us), and… well, this is what we’re going to do.

Through this website and this Cafe Press store, we’re going to release one t-shirt a week. It’ll go live on Monday… and it’ll die Sunday night. Each one lives for a week, and then it’s replaced by the next week’s shirt. Until I either run out of dumb ideas or Ariana’s brain explodes."

here.

doktor sleepless.

another warren ellis trade paperback that I'm really digging! I read this one on the flights to and from Phoenix - good stuff!

this is volume one (issues 1-8) of the ongoing comic book series... great story - great art... a lot of quality work from Ellis and Avatar these days...

here's the wiki synopsis: Set in the near future, this series follows the exploits of John Reinhardt, an enigmatic "mad scientist" whose motivations for returning to Heavenside are shady at best. Since his mysterious disappearance, he has reinvented himself as "Doktor Sleepless" and, to the dismay and utter confusion of the authorities, seemingly rules the airwaves (through his mastery of all things technological) with his thought-provoking, radical rhetoric.

it's a good read... I bought my copy at my local comic store -- amazon.com doesn't list the softcover collection but here's a link to the hardcover collection.

recommended reading - Warren Ellis trades.

with a couple of days off, I've been doing a bit more reading than ususal. Now, I usually dig Warren Ellis' comics - so this might come as no surprise... but here are a couple of recommendations.

FreakAngels. The first collection of the free online comic from Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield. The synopsis from wikipedia:

"Freakangels is set in a time after London has been flooded. A group, called the Freakangels, live in Whitechapel and their life encounters a dramatic bump when a girl called Alice arrives one day, bearing a shotgun and a grievance against one of their number. Ellis' synopsis of the plot involves characters "living in a post-flood London that they might possibly have had something to do with."

Black Summer. A done in one collection of the mini-series from Warren Ellis and Juan Jose Ryp. The synopsis from wikipedia:

"The miniseries alternates between flashbacks detailing the origin of a superhero team called The Seven Guns, and the present day, where one of their members kills the President of the United States. The Seven Guns are "an association of politically-aware young scientist-inventors", who create their own superhuman enhancements through extreme body modification experiment..."

if you want to take my advice - head on over to you local comic shop or check out amazon.com for FreakAngels or Black Summer. enjoy!
