Solid Steel - April 01.2011

Solid Steel in association with Serato (1st April).

DK back in the hot seat opening with a track from Clonius off the excellent compilation on Affine Records, another spin for Africa Hitech and we keep the high tempo with Chrissy Murderbot. Then it's classic reggae from Wayne Smith, mixed with 'old skool' jungle from Skoobz and more of the same with 'R-Type' from Jo, followed by the current refix from T.Williams. A killer track from Peverelist slips perfectly into the lush sounds of 'Nobu' by Herbie Hancock, before the bass kicks in with Albert. We also hear a Clonius remix of 'Tropical Hands' by Dorian Concept, jazz from Lorez Alexandria and Buster Williams, latin flavours from Nico Gomez and we end with The Specials and The Skatalites.

The Leisure Allstars return once again with another fine selection hopping between styles, but they always manage to shake the dancefloor. Crookers kick us off followed by a Mos Def boot and NWA brought straight up to date by HavocNdeeD. A brief shot of DnB, hip hop from Rasco and bass n beats from Vent and Project Bassline. Sunlight Square Latin Combo bring summer vibes with their rendition of 'I believe in miracles' and we turn heavy again through to the end.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (28th January).

Hexstatic in the mix this week with an eclectic mix of old and new tunes inspired by cycling around ye olde London. A classic Royksopp remix of KOC, leading into the lovely electronica Two Dots by Lusine. Big fav from last year,.. SBTRKT's remix of Modeselektors 'Art&Cash' manages to be both banging and heartfelt at the same time and leads perfectly into spanking fresh new matierial from Robin Hexstatic's new 36 Kings project. Next up The surprisingly classic Flying Into Tokyo from Magnetic Man that mixes suprememly well with Andreya Triana. A nice syncopated tempo change from Al Usher and a big big old fav from techno legend Dave Angel and then into some nice dancefloor action from Zero 7, until we end on a more chilled vibe with lovely electronica from Koreless and Commix.

solid steel (29 Jan 2010)

Solid Steel in association with Serato (29th January).

Those party starting baddest of boys, Leisure Allstars, drop yet another mighty fine mixtape. It’s their usual self assured mix of bass heavy beats and dutty riddims that are sure to nice up just about any dance. Tom Central, Seiji and Grand Puba are just some of the tasty ingredients.

Talking of food, Strictly Kev furnishes us with a special Brian Eno-themed mix this week - More Volts: The Funky Eno. Most people think of Roxy Music, Bowie, Ambient, Talking Heads, U2 and errrr Coldplay when they think of 'the Bean' but he's turned out some seriously funk-fuelled pieces in his time. Here's an hour from across his career including collaborations with David Byrne, Talking Heads and the Grid, as well as the man himself of course.

NOW totally downloadable and embeddable!!
