Bass for your face y'all. A couple of great Public Enemy mixtapes put together by DJ Bedz. Volumes one and two of War @ 33 1/3... The Mixtape. I've really been enjoying these for the last couple of months.
I initially grabbed these at mixtapetorrent.com but really wasn't digging how it was split up into tracks giving you that momentary gap in the music. So I ended up buying my copies at mixtapeusa.com. Unfortunately, it looks like volume one isn't in stock there right now -- but they have volume two on sale for a ridiculously low price of $3.50!!

Caveman on Campus gets a little love from Tokyo, Japan thanks to the kind words of John Wu. John runs his blog "A Way of Life. My Life" - detailing his daily thoughts, likes and dislikes. Recent posts include a few artists that make an impression on him as well as a beautiful quote from Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh.
Speaking of Thich Nhat Hanh -- I love his writings - so simple and understandable and yet so difficult for me to live by. Check out any of his books, especially Taming the Tiger or Anger, for those of you with issues like me.

Ok jazz heads -- here's one NOT to sleep on. I've had this compilation of Atlantic Jazz releases on my shelf for years now... unlistened to! I throw it on the other day and find that this is a real gem.
It's a total jazz mixtape - put together by Joel Dorn (an American jazz and R&B music producer and record label serial entrepreneur). All I can say is brilliant...! Put your headphones on and get into it.
You can pick this up mad cheap at amazon.com (used) or where I got it years ago, Dusty Groove. If you're a fan of jazz music and mixtapes - this is for you.
This cd totally inspires me to get back to my jazz mix project consisting of 6 mixes!

A stoned-out batch of funky jazz tracks from the Atlantic catalog of the 60s and early 70s -- 13 funky and trippy tunes that sound wonderful together! Some tracks are straight and funky, others have a bit of a goofy edge, and others have an expanded consciousness that fits well with the Head Jazz theme!

While wearing your turntables on your wrist initially sounds like a great idea, upon review, turntables are rather heavy and unwieldy, and the cords are a drag too. Enter Flud. They've developed this nice looking steel watch which on first view looks like a clean and classic analog watch, but on closer inspection reveals a design which is based off the record and turntable platter, with detailed attention paid to both the record's grooves and the platter's dots. You know what time is it. by Flud.

Here's a great movie that I re-watched this weekend.
What's it about?
Spring Forward focuses on the friendship between two men who work for the parks department in a small New England town. His first day on the job, Paul (Liev Schreiber), a skittish ex-con looking for a second chance, is partnered with Murph (Ned Beatty), a grizzled veteran who's nearing retirement. The two seem to have little in common … but over the course of a year, shared confidences draw them closer together.

Fantastic time travel movie. Worth 78 minutes of your time to watch this. Highly recommended -- now go rent it!

An engineer builds a machine (quite by accident) that can transport the user back in time. Another Friday - another Solid Steel! Get in the WayBack Machine - we're heading right for 1988! Let's take it back to the Old Skool!!
Boom Monk Ben keeps it 21st Century with cuts from Diplo, Architecture In Helsinki, Digitalism and more nifty nuggets neatly selected and spliced together to get the weekend up and running.
Into hour two and its another dip into the Solid Steel archive. We go back to where it all began, a tape cassette recording from 1988 when KISS FM was still a pirate station. At this point Matt Black and Jon More had joined forces by combining their separate shows - The 'Matt Black Mastermix Party' and Jon's 'Meltdown' in what was to become Solid Steel.
The tracklist is unavailable, but expect to hear Johnny Pate, the Theme from News at Ten, acid house from Sleazy D, an interview with Techno legend Juan Atkins, plus tape hiss and adverts for record shops and club nights from the time. Proper legendary radio!

Y: The Last Man. After 5 outstanding years and 60 fantastic issues... it's all over. I can't say enough wonderful things about this comic. One of the truly great serialized fictions of today.
The premise (for those of you who haven't been following along) - every male on the planet is wiped out in a plague. Well, every man on planet, except our hero, Yorick Brown (and his monkey, Ampersand). The adventure of Yorick and his posse is truly epic.
I'd recommend it to everyone... go buy the first trade paperback (reprinting the first five issues of the series). Try your local comic shops or book stores -- and if you're more of an online shopper -- go here!

Ok, the Xmas season is well over - but I'm so far behind on my reading that I'm just getting around to the xmas issue of Punks the Comic, The Christacular Special #1! Fantastic.
A comic book done cut-up collage style. Punks the Comic creators Fialkov and Chamberlain give us a great ride. How can you go wrong when your lead character is Abe Lincoln?? Guest starring Chuck Dickens... "you mess with dickens you get burned baby!"
From the back cover: "Back to raise holy day spirits and battle the forces of evil, Abe, Fist, Skull, and Dog return in a 52 page long extravaganza of the Winter Festival of Lights/Resurrection/African Heritage/Dick Clark."
also: "Approved by Jesus, Buddha, and various cult leaders, there is no better way to celebrate the holidays aside from being with your families and world peace."
I personally know this book has an effect on people as my girlfriend quoted lines of the book to me this morning! "I hate you. I hope you all get syphillis of the eyes!"

As advertised, Dangerscouse does it again! Back with his "Fantastic Voyage" mix, an uptempo journey through multi-genre musics. Great stuff here.
The mix really starts kicking for me with Three Dog Night and AC/DC (oh yeah, you heard me!). Other highlights for me: Jazz Jamaica, Stevie Wonder, Reuben Wilson, Ike and Tina Turner and Hendrix (see what I mean?!).
