Solid Steel (15 FEB 2008)

Hold up, wait a minute! Ghislain Poirier takes to the turntables for the first section and it's a banger! Music on offer from the man himself and a couple of choice guests including Dizzee Rascal, Bunji Garlin & JMC Triveni, Lil Wayne and more. With his long awaited album out on Monday you need this in your bounce to tide you over! DK hops into wrap up hour one with nuggets from Zero dB and Jimmy Smith.

Another dip into the vaults for hour two this time with PC from DJ Food from May 1999. Beginning with polyrhythmic techno and broken beat, through to Herbie Hancock and ambient world percussion, he quickly moves through downtempo beats, hip hop, jazz and classical strings. Check the technique as he teases the music with his Boss delay pedal, occasionally looping sections and jamming with it to form new sections. Geek chic at its best!

The second hour of PC's mix is available at bosbos.net. Keep an eye on Strictly Kev's blog for even more information. If you don't go and check it out you are a fool! See you next time folks!

Breaking Bad

The tv series, Breaking Bad, currently airing on AMC has got to be the best thing on these days. Yes, I know with the writers' strike - the pickings are slim but this is so dark and so intriguing - I just can't resist.

What's it about? AMC sum it up better than I ever could:

Break Bad (v.) 1. to challenge convention 2. to defy authority 3. to raise hell

Chemistry: the study of change. Meet Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher sleepwalking through life when, boom, a terminal diagnosis changes everything. Liberates him. Empowers him to use his chemistry skills anew: to man a rolling drug lab and finance the future for his struggling family. It's an uncontrolled experiment with the American dream. And it finally wakes him up. Breaking Bad: Change the Equation.

It looks like there are encore airings of the first three episodes TONIGHT! Get caught up and enjoy the fun.

Lucha Libre

Here's a comic that I can't recommend enough. Lucha Libre! The first three issues from Image Comics are out in your local comic store now (or they should be).

The comic is done European album anthology style - all taking place in the same little Lucha Libre world but different characters and storylines throughout. Written by Jerry Frissen and drawn by a host of artists including Bill, Fabien M., Tanquerelle, Gobi and Witko.

The main story, The Luchadores Five are a group of five lucha libre vigilantes that fight crime and hang together (mostly bickering amongst themselves). Appearances by an rival all-French vigilante gang, werewolves, Elveze, a couple of cosmonauts and a dinosaur.

I mean really fun, wacky adventure with some very cool art.

Head out to your local comic store and ask for it. If you can't find it there - you can order the first three issues from their muttpop site.

"the great cosmic ballet is unfolding..."

Got to give a shout out to Ashton Lamont and his blog "Arena of the Unwell"! Ashton was taken in by my Caveman on Campus spam mail and liked what he heard.

How to describe Ashton's blog? Well, he sums it best: A collection of fuzzy ramblings, random reviews, interesting trivia and suchlike from behind the cheapseats........ "We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell."

Head on over to his blog and check out Cruella De Ville, pics of the upcoming Onechanbara film and Jesus of the Future! Really, how can you resist?

No End In Sight.

Rented and watched this film last night. Highly recommended to my fellow Americans.

Netflix: This in-depth, Oscar-nominated documentary from filmmaker (and former Brookings Institution fellow) Charles Ferguson examines the decisions that led to the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq and the handling of the subsequent occupation by President George W. Bush and his administration. Featuring exclusive interviews with central players and detailed analysis, the film pulls no punches as it chronicles the twists and turns America took on the path to war.

comics last week.

Here's the only two comics last week that are even worth looking at. I only bought four comics total and only Jonah Hex #28 and The Twelve #2 were any good.

Thumbs down to Batman Detective Comics #841. Justice Society of America #12 was decent -- but if you haven't been reading this book, you'll more than likely be lost.

Jonah Hex and The Twelve both recommended -- great art -- great stories!

To The Batmobile! Let's Go!

Yes commissioner?

To have your own batphone and Shakespeare bust (complete with hidden switch)! A dream come true...

When Bruce Wayne needed to get to the Batcave, he used a switch hidden in his life-size Shakespeare bust. Now you can too!

Or if you'd rather... the batphone! Heavy-duty traditional desk phone with dial replaced by blank plate, and bell disconnected if you prefer a silent signal.

Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed!

Solid Steel (08 FEB 2008)

North meets South. Toddla T hailing from the steel city, Sheffield, will slap you about good and proper with this weeks selection! Music on the counter from Cross Border, Serocee, Tribe of Issacar, Small Arms Fiya and of course a solid onslaught from the Toddla hard drives. Check the EP "Do You Know?", forth-coming on 1965 Records and Mr T in person at a night spot near you for the versatile DJ style! From London.

J Mountain falls into the studio for hour two and there's broadness a plenty with a pair of cover versions from No Requests and Hot Chip, an exclusive from live recording from The Heavy and bangers from UHM and Stimming. Also that Boy 8-Bit mix of Burial's Archangel lines up next to classic ragga jungle from the Top Cat before the wind down with Pinch and Skream.

Nice little, little nice, nice little, nice one. If you like this, you'll love the podcast.
