Hip hop from The Grouch, J-Live and the return of the 45 King. A few soulful moments care of Plantlife, Creative Source and Marlena Shaw getting the Diplo treatment. picked up all the usual comics this week -- haven't read much yet... but is it just me or have Final Crisis and Secret Invasion been BORING?! I am still expecting Grant Morrison to turn it up on Final Crisis, we'll see.
anyways -- what I did find that I've been enjoying... the massive Tales of Suspense, Marvel Masterworks volume 2. This content (and price heavy) volume reprints the old Atlas era (ie. Marvel) issues of that fantastic series. with creators jack kirby, stan lee, stive ditko and don heck -- really how can you go wrong?
also, grabbed 3 issues of the early 1970's Vampirella magazine. you remember? those old black and white issues on newsprint-y paper stock? fantastic artwork from jose gonzalez, auraleon and richard corben (well the corben stuff is in color)... the stories are weak but who cares..?! good fun.
The amateurs, Democrats, Republicans, etc., have had their chance. And though lately some of them have been pretty evil, none can compare to the Dread Cthulhu. Vote for Him! Then the liberated Old Ones will teach mankind new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth will flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom. The stars are right!

This week - the one and only, big in the game, DJ Saffrolla takes us by storm! Party music to have you jumping round your front room, front field, front seat, front garden, frontal lobe! Music on offer from Dougie Fresh, Crookers, Diplo, Who Made Who and more bangers for you sangers! Love it!
For this week's vintage session we turn the tables over to Solid Steel's US ambassador: King Megatrip. He is he creator of the Soundbank, a huge resource of spoken word samples that he has supplied exclusively to us for years. He has also had 6 guest mixes featured over the years and we get to hear a distilled version of them with new spoken word. Tracks from 3rd Bass, Billy Stewart, Third Wave and more. Check out bosbos.net for more vintage Solid Steel with King Megatrip selecting his favourite Coldcut show from 2001. Nice!

A dark and lonely planet or a shade tree and a home you built yourself? It all depends on your perspective. Maybe it’s just the boathouse for The Little Prince, but if sci-fi television is any indication, there’s something dangerous and powerful down there and it doesn’t want to be disturbed.

Also, Y: The Last Man vol.10 is in. For all of you who've been sleeping on this... no excuses! The entire story has been collected - go get it! (trust me).
Finally, Will Eisner's Spirit Archives wraps up the main series of reprints. Check out this panel from June 01.1952, how could I refuse this one -- I mean a gun... made out of pancake batter!?

DJ Pain puts together some of my all-time favorite mixes. He's the guy who did "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Road to Oblivion"... well, he's back -- this time with his compadre Chaps One with a new mix! Simply titled "HDP Mix" ("Hermanos Del Pulpo").
Please DO NOT SLEEP on this one, it's moody, it's atmospheric and it's got some great sci-fi spoken word in the mix. Lovely stuff.
(Big up to Mr. Trick and his Rhythm-Incusions site for hosting this one!)
Hexstatic smash down the door and take over the studio for the first hour with music freshly served from LCD Soundsystem, Chateau Flight, Greenskeepers, Ratatat and more of the finest weekend flavours!
