books I've read...
what I've read lately (and by that I mean the past couple of months... I'm a slow reader!).
Carter Brown's "A Good Year for Dwarfs?".... breezed through this while in Florida. a thin little paperback - just plain nonsense... but I was loving it. just dime-store detective action from 1970! from the back cover:
Death is a Dirty Movie
Chicly clothed or buck naked, skin flick starlet Jodie Rimmel was one of the hottest properties around. Yet when she mysteriously vanished from the set one afternoon, only two people cared enough to find her -- Davis Davis, a movie dwarf with a giant income, and Gloria Staron, a hundred-dollar hooker whose feelings for Jodie ran thicker than blood. And Rick Holman, it seems, was working for both of them.
Yet the harder Holman dug for information, the more confused he became. For in that twilight movie world where sex is a game played for fun and profit, nobody was ever who they were supposed to be... dead or alive.
and another Chuck Palahniuk book that my girl recommended... "Survivor".
from amazon.com: "Starting at chapter 47 and screaming toward ground zero, Palahniuk hurls the reader back to the beginning in a breathless search for where it all went wrong. This time out, the author's protagonist is self-made, self-ruined mogul-messiah Tender Branson, the sole passenger of a jet moments away from slamming first into the Australian outback and then into oblivion. All that will be left, Branson assures us with a tone bordering on relief, is his life story, from its Amish-on-acid cult beginnings to its televangelist-huckster end. All of this courtesy of the plane's flight recorder."
both recommended as part of the Megatrip Book Club.
