Solid Steel (29th March).

Solid Steel (29th March).

We open with Ninja Tune artist Falty DL and a mix of fine tracks starting with the wonderful 'Love me like this' by Floating Points and into an unreleased cut from the man himself. Then it's the first of two tracks from Mr Richard D James, as AFX on Rephlex to start and Pulsewidth as Aphex Twin later. In between there's music from Theo Parrish, Luke Vibert, MFSB and Moodymann, plus some afrobeat magic from Tony Allen.
Robin from Hexstatic is up next with the new track 'Cirrus' from Bonobo (check the amazing video) and into a new release from the ever lush Lusine on Ghostly International. Some nice house action from Huxley and Soul Reazon and then new fav Dusky with 'What I Need'. Waze and Odyssey pump it up party style and then into the classic voice of Robert Owens brought up to date by Mosca, before closing with a great booty of Lauryn Hill switching the lyrics up from Golden Boy.

Our 25th Anniversary slot this week features Richard Dorfmeister who appeared on the show in 2003 and featured many times as one half of Kruder and Dorfmeister, as well as his project Tosca with Rupert Huber, amongst others. Opening with ECM artist Steve Tibbetts, his mix floats between Gui Boratto, his own lush edit for Selah Sue, acoustic guitar of Jeb Loy Nichols and the dubbed out Rhythm & Sound featuring Cornell Campbell on vocals. He then weaves through Pat Metheney, the dub version of Sunset from Grace Jones' last album, blues from Ry Cooder and ending with a couple of tracks from his recent Tosca album 'Odeon'.

Menagerie -The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix

'The Spiritual Jazz Selector Mix' is a collection of tracks assembled by Menagerie - the new spiritual Jazz project from prolific producer Lance Ferguson. Solid Steel (22nd March).

Solid Steel (22nd March).

Coldcut in charge this week, easing in with a reggae selection featuring Horace Andy, Tapper Zukie and Baba Dread, before switching into the much sampled Anne Murray and stripping it right back with Unforscene. The beats get heavy with Clicks & Whistles, Krueger and Swindle on Deep Medi Musik, then more reggae from Lone Ranger and Peter Tosh and closing with legendary British jazz figure John Cameron.

In our 25th Anniversary slot, we welcome back Fink, who has appeared many times on Solid Steel dating back to 1999. We asked for something a little different and taking a brief break from the studio in LA where he's demoing up the new Fink album, he delivers us 30 minutes of avant-bard-core for the ear waves. It's music from The Horrors, Bjork, Fever Ray and House of Black Lanterns, with a couple of remixes courtesy of 16 Bit and Scuba. The new Fink EP 'Warm Shadow' is available for download this week.

Finally, it's a mix from Natural Self to close the show. His new album 'Neon hurts my eyes' is out now on Tru Thoughts and we get a taste of some of the tracks, including his great version of Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman', plus music from The Units, Innerzone Orchestra and the sublime 'The Other Song' by Son of Spirit from 1975.

Solid Steel (15th March).

Solid Steel (15th March).

25 years of Solid Steel continues and this week we start with a mix from Om Unit who featured on the show a few years ago, but under a different guise and also had a winning entry in the Solid Steel Intro competition from way back. A forward thinking producer who's music has featured many times, either as Om Unit, alter ego Philip D Kick or his collaboration with new Ninja signing Machinedrum as Dream Continuum. Music in the mix includes Danny Scrilla, Phaeleh, Alego, Om Unit alongside Sam Binga and the premiere of his collaboration with Fracture. Heavy!

DK takes over with Space Dimension Controller, remains in outer space with Sun Ra, followed by the Machinedrum remix for Fracture and Neptune and new music from Leatherette, Lapalux and Bonobo featuring Erykah Badu.

On Solid Steel, we like to go deep and as part of our celebrations in Hour 2, we welcome DJ Scientist with Solid Soviet Steel Radio (SSSR), a special guest mix that solely features music from the former Soviet Union. The dedicated record collector, DJ and Equinox record label owner from Berlin managed to unearth and put together an extensive and fascinating selection of tracks from countries like the Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldavia, Russia and more, resulting in a unique musical adventure. The mix starts with a deep and slow psych part, coming up with more funk-laden Soviet grooves and killer instrumental breaks. Many of these groups managed to create their own kind of sound, mixing western styles like Jazz, Funk and Rock with traditional music from their own countries. Solid Steel (8th March).

Solid Steel (8th March).

DK back this week with the superb Cid Rim remix for Chvrches, another spin for Romare and the Falty DL remix for Dobie, reminiscent of the next track, Wagon Christ's remix of Extreme Possibilities. Then it's two from Leatherette, one via a Dorian Concept remix, tough Brazilian batucada from Alma Brasileira and Forss from 2003. This leads into a classic from Cymande, new music from Bonobo and Four Tet, Moodyman from '98 and Daphni laced with 'Dis poem' by Mutabaruka, who crops up again with Kalbata. We wind down with The Underachievers from their mixtape on Brainfeeder and close with jazz from Billy Cobham and Michel Urbaniak.

We welcome back J Rocc for our 25th Anniversary slot in hour 2, having featured on Solid Steel back in 2005 and also played at the Solid Steel night at Cargo for the 'Keep in Time' release. He's a man that's also known for his Broadest Beats and for this mix he opens with Krautrock legends Faust and moves through similar 70's jazz/prog/rock territory with The Abstract Truth from South Africa, Lokomotive Kreuzberg from Germany and Psychedelic Rock from South Korea with He 6! Then it's a sharp turn into an 80's New Wave and a leftfield disco selection featuring music from Doris Norton (an 80's Italian Delia Derbyshire), Das Ding, Dominatrix, Klein & MBO and Visage, all mixed to perfection as you'd expect from the founder member of the Beat Junkies.
